Probably no one thought to give him a chance.
In fairness though, clearly the coach is a great guy and the teammates and fans are all very supportive.

It is really great to see autistic children get recognized
From my own standpoint (and I ain't lying) living with an autistic brother can be a lot of work and one day we hope that all the work my parents and I did would pay off.
Autistic people can do great things. they are so focused, so dedicated that the good thing they can do is the only thing they do well in... even better than some of us non mentally challenged people.
Jason's parents must be estatic seeing that he made was recognized by his school, teammates and definitely the media.
Good on Jason!

Really wonderful story. Just a matter of time until we see this story on the big screen.

Also, what is so bad about being artistic?
|
1. His defensive zone coverage was pretty lax, you gotta play both ways to earn minutes.
2. Artistic people are generally disliked becuase they tend to be pretentious.

There have been movies out about autistic children (Namely Rainman with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman), but not about basketball... It would be great if this turned into a movie, definitely great. Never ceases to amaze me how people who live such probably very hard, very lonely lives could do such wonders.

When the coach stood up to point at the kid to get in, he should have been t'ed up by the ref for stepping on the court. Once again poor officiating is the cause for the riot!!

They truly are great people. I had worked in a group home for autistic individuals for 5.5 years. They were all non-verbal (except for a few words) and had some behavioural issues but no matter what happened they really had a way of brightening up your day. Anytime I go home (east coast) I try to stop in and see how they're doing and they're still happy to see me and remember my name, despite it being about 5 years ago now.

Ya, my family would go to Hong Kong every couple years, and it is funny, because they seem to remember a lot of things... we go back and he still recognizes the teachers that he had at a special Ed school, he even knows the custodians. Austistic people are really something special.
