I just googled him to check his salary stats and the Wikipedia description was ‘an American NHl player and visual artist? Really? Those paintings his buddy convinced him to do in the NHL prime show make him an artist? It was similar talent to when they have elephants at zoos paint with their trunks…

I don’t see the purpose of putting him on waivers? Would any team think about picking him up at $8 million without retention or sending money back?

The teams would just make a deal like the Marchant-Fedorov trade. If Troube wont waive, you just complete the trade as if he was in so send enough salary back, and then that team is the only team that would claim him on waivers.
But Columbus could add the 8 million anyway.

So is it only just a full NMC that cannot be put on waivers? Every other trade protection clause can be?

No, but obviously there are problems in the room, and they basically did the same thing with Goodrow. He wouldn't waive his NTC for SJ so they put him on waivers and SJ grabbed him.
