Not bad cap hit but he really hasn't been great for a couple years. Yzerman spinning his wheels, Detroit is still just a borderline playoff team.

That is a ton of money for a 3rd line player with maybe 2nd unit PP time…

Detroit needs experience. Couple of old guys who've won some cup will help them immensely.

23 goals and 55 points in 76 games last season. That's one hell of a 3rd-liner.

23 goal, 55 point 2x cup winner. On a just starting to compete Detroit squad he's more than just any 3rd line player. They need experience and leadership. For 2 yrs this is a perfect deal

Detroit moving a 2nd to move Walman out...and then just giving that money to Kane/Tarasenko is so weird to me.

Their defense is still brutal and Petry/Chiarot/Holl/Maatta are all worse than Walman was.

They still don't have a partner for Seider.

And they still have to re-sign Raymond, Seider, and Veleno.

Yzerman is a great GM but he joined a team that went through a rebuild without acquiring any elite talent so they’re gonna struggle to be a cup contender. Needed a lottery win or two.

I get his experience and helping younger players in Detroit.

This was more a comment on the salary for a 34 year old with a lot of hockey played.

Tarsey certainly has been a valuable player in previous seasons, however he was not a stand out during the Panthers Cup run.

Also, I see his numbers on the decline, but he may surprise in Detroit and have a resurgence.

I agree, I found he wasn't very effective in this past playoffs and Florida's cup had little to do with him. Good pick up for that price, but Detroit is not a lock to even make the playoffs at this point.

The Wings also traded Fabbri and his 4 million dollar cap hit to Anaheim with a 4th for an ECHL goalie.

Ehh I'm less sure he's a great GM than I once was.

Still think he's a good GM...but his work in Detroit has been suspect especially his trades and free agency decisions.

Edvinsson is graduating to the roster this year. Yzerman said he was making room.for him. Plus they have a few up and comers who could earn a spot or take a job as well

He got very unlucky as they had the worst season in the salary cap era only to lose the lottery 3 times. That being said, Lafreniere was 1st pick and wouldn't change much.

Zadina and Veleno really hurt them, other than 2020 they weren't positioned in the bottom 3 either. No luck in the draft lottery but the Flames had similar lack of luck the years prior and managed at least a team that can win the division.

Then pay a second to move one of Holl, Maatta, etc.

Or just put Walman on waivers where it's been said he likely gets selected and don't just give up a second as your first offer to get rid of him which has been said to surprise other GMs including Grier.

Ken Holland is available. I’m sure it rubbed off on him, but he knows a thing or two about winning, if there are any concerns.

On topic, I wasn’t as impressed with tarasenko in the finals as I thought. Still, over 82 games he probably gets PP time and 25 goals.

Yep, calgary needs to take note as we go through this. Need 2 or 3 shots at top 5 ish picks to hopefully land a franchise centre or least elite forward.

Yup. This is my big fear with the Flames if the refuse to bottom out. Hopefully this year brings a top 5 pick though.
