Stockton or Glens Falls. For me getting them lots of pro ice time would be the big thing.

I'd like that but mcdavid doesn't play with his head down. Kind of like Johnny. They know where the puck is on their stick without looking too much at it

What kind of numbers did he have this year? A project - needs as much ice as he can get

I don't get how they can be 'close'...
It's a standard ELC. If both sides want to sign, you sign. What is there to be 'close' about?

For Brad "I don't comment on contract negotiations" Treliving to say that it is close, it likely means that they agreed to terms and it is just a matter of physically signing it.

Maybe they challenged Hunter Smith to certain skating benchmarks, and told him that when you can complete these tests we sign you? And right now he's close.

Outside of the first round there is nothing standard about an ELC, Salarie range from 655-925k, bonuses and AHL money.

I'm sure it's just a matter of signing off on the paper work. Probably not much haggling going on and I doubt it's some skating goals the Flames have set for the summer.
As for his development next year that was mentioned above.. yeah getting lots of ice time is good but the major thing he has to work on is skating. It'll be fine if he gets 3rd line minutes and a limited role on the special teams next season. Smith and Klimchuk won't be go to players next year and that's okay.
The Flames promoted Dominic Pittis from from the Skills and Development coach to AHL assistant coach in Stockton. One of Pittis' main objectives in that role was skating development. Dominic used to go down to the AHL about once a month last season so you know he'll be really pushing the skating development full time on our farm team this season. Day-to-Day skating practise and development will be just as important as playing next season for Hunter Smith.
