I think I knew 3 songs on that top 50 songs list. Nicki Minaj, Foster the People, and The Black Keys...

Yeah, it's obviously next to impossible to make a top song list without someone not agreeing.

Hell, my favorite song of 2011 isn't even available to buy as a single, since it's a Mashup. I'm stuck with Podcast versions cut down to size.

My vote for song of the year and album of the year. It's kind of a perfect blend of 80s synth-rock and 00s indie rock.

Macker

1. Bon Iver : Bon Iver
2. PJ Harvey : Let England shake
3. Wild Beasts : Smother
4. Foster the people : Torches
5. Bombay Bicycle Club : A different kind of fix
6. James Blake : James Blake
7. Elbow : Build A rocket Boys
8. Yuck : Yuck
9. Adele : 21
10. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks : Mirror Traffic

It wasn't the best year for music imo. Especially for "albums". Lots of good singles out there though and many off of this record label

Hopefully next year is better as 2011 was a bit of a let down musically imo.

Dream Theater, Anthrax, and Megadeth all had pretty solid albums this year.

I just thought I'd recognize more. I recognize a few more of the bands on the top 50 albums but the majority I've never heard of before. I didn't think I was that out of touch with music.

Is 2012 the last year for CDs (and albums)?

Based off that list, my #1 would have to go Tom Waits. I'm also disgustingly biased, so my opinion doesn't count.

Not that I have heard the album - but Q's list has 01 Florence & The Machine – Ceremonials - that album just came out a month ago - seems like more of picking the flavor of the month more than the best album

FYI, Bon Iver, who shows up often on this year's lists, has a critically-acclaimed song called "Calgary". Thought that was pretty neat.

The Roots might release the best album of 2011, next week.

Not about Calgary, AB, from what I understand.
