Default Liberals....truly are a different breed. Born that way says this study!

Not sure what this proves if anything, but for some reason it was kind of funny to read that anyone would even study it to begin with.

"These findings suggest that political affiliation is not based solely on the kind of social environment people experience,” Fowler said. I always wondered what was wrong with those people . . . . and now we know.

Seriously, I doubt it. Unless in-breeding is the reason certain areas of countries, not just this one, are more likely left-wing than other parts.

People with university degrees do tend to be more liberal than the average population... so you would think that genetics does play, at least, a small role.

Conversely, I was born lefty, was lefty until I was 17-18, and then realized how silly that was.

Not saying that nature doesn't play some role in our politics, but to try to define it along modern ideological definitions is just ridiculous. The whole idea of liberalism is itself only about 400 years old and the term "liberal" comes from the beginning of the 18th century. Pre-modern politics was based around entirely different values and conceptions of the human person and city.

This study is a joke.

Seriously, this is why I get so upset when people tend to mishmash political definitions when they really only have a basic understanding of the theory and philosophy of politics. The guy conveniently gets his definition on liberalism and conservatism from some unnamed political scientist he found on the web and then embarks upon an amazing exercise in confirmation bias. Wow, that was awful.

Just like the old saying: If you don't vote NDP when you're 21 you have no heart. If you're still voting NDP when you're 41 you have no brain!

What is this I don't even...why am I against tendancy again?

I've gone the other way. I started more liberal during the start of my university degree...but I'm more conservative than ever now.

I don't believe in liberals or conservatives. The whole right vs. left dichotomy is ridiculous.

Well at least we can conclude that Liberal's have a better imagination, and probably a propensity towards insanity.

I don't know if I totally believe that, especially in a Canada where so many people go to University now.

I think its less about education and more about preformed values.

I agree with this, almost everyone I am still friends with from High School has a university education, and every single one has the same political leanings as they did pre-university. Which wasn't that long ago being only 25.

Only 22% of people go to University though, and a mere 12% of the population completes a degree. Its not the majority or anywhere near that figure.
