Default Easy Way to Create a Website??

I need to make a website for myself and don't want to break the bank in doing so. I know nothing about html, programing etc.

Does anyone know of a good and easy program that I can design a website with and then upload it to a domain I own?
I'd like to be able to continuously update it as well with new items, pictures, news etc.

thanks

edit: Should mention I use a Mac, so would like Mac software

Adobe Go Live
Dreamweaver

Only two I know of, aside from Front-Page which is crap.

There might be some info in this thread: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=74730

Just point your domain at a Squarespace account for the simplest solution.

Depending on what your needs are, you might be able to get by with using iWeb. Comes with iLife, should be standard install on your mac unless it's quite old :-) Easy to use, especially for small projects.

Ask Dobbles. He's a programmer, so he may have some good ideas.

There are Dreamweaver CS4 tutorials on Youtube that show you how to get started.

I've already loaded a minor portion to my website (This site is under construction with my email). I know that I need to get a lot better at things like Photoshop in order to create my website properly as well. I would definitely recommend the Dreamweaver program. It's quite simple to use with the tutorials.

I would cut out the hassle and go for something like sqaurespace. The price may not be to your liking, but you may wish you had gone that route if things start getting frustrating.

Thanks for the advise. I'm leaning towards using squarespace and have started to design my site.
I need a database and email account associated with my site, so I think designing that myself is beyond my abilities and squarespace will be easiest.

Question # 2:
If I want an email account for my domain, do I have to buy it with my domain, or do I set it up with my host (squarespace)?

e.g, I'm buying "www.johnsmith.com" and want the email account "mail@johnsmith.com". Do I have to add/buy this feature when buying the domain? or later when setting up with my host?

I use gmail to host email on my domains: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html

Exactly how you set it up will be determined by your domain registrar.

So, I'm also getting to the point where I should be looking to create my own website as well.

Is Squarespace as good as it looks on their website? I'm currently playing around with the 14 day trial, and it looks very, very impressive. I want absolutely nothing to do with HTML code, and all I'm going to create is simple website with 2-3 pages of content. Nothing fancy, no videos(as of right now).....just basic information.

You get emails when you get your domain. I went to Go Daddy and got 5 emails and my domain for like $20

If you don't have you domain yet, register through Google. You then have everything linked to Google automatically.

It take only a few minutes to figure things out after that.

like most people, I'd suggest using squarespace and then registering a domain at http://www.domainsatcost.ca. (unless squarespace allows you to purchase a domain server through their service)

Free is always a great temptation, but for the amount registering ($15 a year) and host/development costs (10-15 a month) it's easier and more beneficial just to take the bite.

Google's web site and free services are great, but they also look like Google web sites (similar to how Geocities web sites were clearly geocities web sites) unless you hack the crap out of them. If you're going for style and some client retention you get what you pay for.

I also recommend Squarespace, but host with Godaddy if you can. Or, if you host with someone else, make sure you have access to your Cname controls. Ipower doesn't give you access, so instead of going through the hassle of approving everything with them, I just moved my domain to Godaddy.

In a little over a week I built a decent looking website.
