Default GPS Opinion

I am looking for a GPS for my car, and I was just wondering do any CPers have any comment or experience with any GPS.

The reason I ask is that, is it really that helpful? Would it be kind of a waste of money if I am not a frequent traveler out of town? Or will it be good in the city as well?

I have my eyes on a sony (NV-UT73) one right now that is on sale. I have read both positive and negative reviews about the unit. I know the best reputable brand are Garmin and TomTom, but I want one that has at least a 4.3" screen, and text to speech, and most of the Garmin and TomTom are out of my price range (around 200-250).

Go with a Pioneer Avic. Hands down the best. I don't have one, I just have the OEM unit for my car, but those things are awesome. Even if you don't go out of town much, you'd be surprised how much they come in handy. For example taking my car in for an alignment the other day, some generic industrial park in the NE, and I knew roughly how to get there but the Nav knows street numbers so you know which block of identical buildings is the one you need.
