Default Klassen win Lou Marsh Award

There was a bit of a debate this year with an article in the G&M on the weekend and discussion on TSN's The Reporters.

Could have been Steve Nash, the guy who won Baseball's NL MVP or Joe Thornton.

Deserving?

I think so.

I think this year was a tough choice, with some really outstanding achievements from Canadian Athletes. Steve Nash won his second straight NBA MVP, Justin Morneau won the AL MVP, and Joe Thornton won the NHL MVP.

No doubt Klassen's accomplishments are extraordinary, she is very deserving. Ultimately I think the Lou Marsh award tends to lean towards Ametuer athlete's in Olympic years, which is fine.

My only arguement against this selection is that Klassen dominated a sport that Canada usually does extremely well in, and has very good training/coaching. Nash and Morneau have risen to the top of sports where Canadians are seldom even seen playing on a professional level, let alone dominating. I know Nash won last year, but Morneau just didn't get the media attention in Canada that he deserved for what he accomplished in the MLB.

Still, you can't go wrong with our most decorated Olympic Athlete, i suppose

What do you think?
