Default Klassen wins Lou Marsh Award

http://tsn.ca/olympics/news_story/?ID=188069&hubname=

Given to Canada's most outstanding Athlete.

I think this year was a tough choice, with some really outstanding achievements from Canadian Athletes. Steve Nash won his second straight NBA MVP, Justin Morneau won the AL MVP, and Joe Thornton won the NHL MVP.

No doubt Klassen's accomplishments are extraordinary, she is very deserving. Ultimately I think the Lou Marsh award tends to lean towards Ametuer athlete's in Olympic years, which is fine.

My only arguement against this selection is that Klassen dominated a sport that Canada usually does extremely well in, and has very good training/coaching. Nash and Morneau have risen to the top of sports where Canadians are seldom even seen playing on a professional level, let alone dominating. I know Nash won last year, but Morneau just didn't get the media attention in Canada that he deserved for what he accomplished in the MLB.

Still, you can't go wrong with our most decorated Olympic Athlete, i suppose

What do you think?

One argument against the pros was that they get other, most times better compensation.

Another argument was that what Morneau did has been done before by Larry Walker, and of course, Nash repeated as NBA MVP but can't get over that championship hump.

I do not know if we have dominated speed skating. What do we usually get 2,3 medals between the men and women at each games?

On the coaching scene, don't Nash and Morneau now have full time coaches helping them be the best they can be? How is that different from Klassen's coaches?

A good choice I think.

an amazing athlete, an almost unprecedented haul of medals, she's a terrific choice for the award.

If Nash was a raptor, I bet he takes it home rather easily.

Why? I hope you're joking.

Nash won the award last year, and he was Phoenix Sun for that year.

This makes no sense at all. Larry Walker won the award as a member of the Rockies.

This has nothing to do with where an athlete played. Klassen had the best performance at an Olympic Games that any Canadian has ever had. I think that is why Nash didn't win. Nah playing for the Raptors wouldn't have changed that.
