Garbage. Go with Sirius.
I say that because I'm a huge Stern fan.

I've had XM for about six months now, and I wish I had signed up sooner. It's just incredible, and the stuff available to listen to continues to expand. Not only that, but there is some awesome technology coming soon that I am eagerly anticipating.
One thing I did though was sign up in the US with a US address. The CRTC likes to meddle even in satellite radio, and I wanted to avoid that altogether. Doing it that way I am still able to get all the Canadian content which isn't all that impressive anyways.
Edit- But look at Sirius as well, and decide what you want more. Both services are great, it's all about personal preference.

Then again, isn't the NHL only on Sirius for one more year, then XM gets exclusive rights?

I believe so. XM signed a 10 year deal.

I've had XM since last fall and couldn't be without it. It's great to be able to listen to Peter Maher here in Toronto. Also, commercial-free music makes the commute fly by and when I'm in the mood for a laugh there's Ron and Fez on Ch. 202 every afternoon. I highly recommend XM Radio.

Hockey on the radio sucks anyways. Who wants to hear about some incredible play that you can't see?
Sirius and Center Ice, that's the way to go!
Yeah, both XM & Sirius are quite similar, just check out the channel lineup and see who has more personalities and programs you like.
I am 100% Sirius all the way.

I can't say that there are any 'personalities' that I woudl be drawn too, and both stations seem to have similar line-ups in terms of genres of music.
For car audio, are there head units that already have the sat receiver built in, or is the receiver always an add on?
Does a car head unit that says 'XM Ready' just have some sort of an 'aux' audio jack, or can it actually control a receiver?
Or does it depend?

I'm not too up on this, but check this out:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8
From what I gather, your XM subscription would be on that SIM like card, and you could somehow plug that into a XM ready car deck.
I have the Delphi MyFi receiver, and it has a builtin antenna, but it also came with a car antenna that I mounted easily enough with the help of a friend, and a portable antenna.
xm411.com
xmfan.com
Two good websites with loads of info. I don't mean to be all pro-XM, but I don't know much at all about Sirius.

Fair enough, I'll listen to the odd game on my Sirius in the car. But I almost prefer to just hit the auto-refresh button the nhl.com score page when I'm at work.

For music, Sirius is more top 40 and more repetitive while XM is less mainstream (except the top 20 station) and less repetition.
For sports, Sirius has NHL (for one more season) and NFL. XM has NHL and MLB. The other great thing for NHL/MLB is on XM it shows the score of each game, period and for MLB it has the current count. It makes it easy to flip through games because you don't have to wait to hear the score.
I would say satellite radio is definitely worth it. A good site for info on XM radio is www.xmfan.com.
For those in the Edmonton area, you can get a free XM radio plus two months free subscription just by taking a KIA for a test drive.

Yeah, XM are pretty desperate right now, they're giving away radios left and right with all sorts of offers. Sirius is catching up fast and they are losing a lot of business, XM lost teh NASCAR deal to Sirius and I guess that's a big deal in the US.
Sirius scrolls the NHL scores across the display also, you can scan through and find out what's going on without waiting for them to mention the score.
As for car audio, Sirius just signed a deal with Audi and Volkswagon, stanard equipment on all new cars.
The biggest factor though, Sirius has the King of all Media. I wouldn't take an XM radio if it was free.

I can't speak to the XM part of this, but the Sirius comparison is right on the money. It almost seems geared towards somebody who will be flipping channels all the time. Me staying on the 80's channel, I know if I'm late for work or not depending on where I am on McLeod when "Mony, Mony" comes on.

Sirius is the way to go IMO. I have had it since Christmas and have had it at work for over a year. Heck even my stepdad who just picked up an XM radio is even regretting not picking up a Sirius radio instead.

We have Sirius in both our cars. I love it. My wife's car came with Sirius, and we had to choose betwen the two for our new car. I picked Sirius, because I really like their Indie station(Left of Center). CBC3 is cool too.
I have also started to listen to Howard Stern a bit. I am not a fan, but I find myself oddly drawn to turn it on. Sirius just added playboy too, lol. Porn on the radio, whatever floats your boat I guess.
My only complaint is sound quality. It is really not that good. Slightly better than AM, IMO. My Ipod through the tape deck sounds far superior to the satellite radio built in to both cars, and reminds me how crappy the satellite sound quality is, every time I switch over.

Hahaha, I love Maher. But it's 2006 for Christ's sake, if I want hockey I'll go home and fire up the 55" TV and Satellite receiver with Center Ice.

No doubt about it. XM is rubbish, it's all about Sirius.
