Good. This franchise has been a revolving door of coaches for so long. Some stability at the position is good.

But when this is over, he'll be fired for sure.

They are not equipped to win. What’s the worst can happen?
He can just keep the boat afloat for awhile, maybe

Bold statement, since almost every coach is fired eventually.

Every coach is fired eventually and Huska might not be the coach we need when we're ready to contend, but I've liked what I've seen from him in general so I'm happy with this.
His overall game plan may be a bit of a question (though almost no coaches new to the NHL start off strong in that regard) but you can't argue with the job he's done getting everyone to want to play hard for each other and how that's contributing to this team punching above its weight.

If he survives to the end of this extension, he'll be #1 on the Flames all-time games coached list.
Currently, Bob Johnson has the record for most regular season games coached in one stint at 400. Darryl's combined total is 404.
With the league expanding to 84 games per season next year, Huska will be at 414 when this contract ends (assuming he coaches every game and no games are cancelled). He'll be at 416 if you include the 2 games he coached before Darryl came back behind the bench.
Of course, he has a big hill to climb when it comes to playoff games coached. Johnson leads that list too with 52 and Darryl is second with 45. Huska is currently on 0.

Well deserved and makes sense. The right coach at the right time for this organization. I have confidence in his ability to coach up young talent and he should have a lot more to work with over the next two seasons as this roster turns over.

I like the timing. Team lays an egg, extension to the coach. Message to players, this is who is in charge.
I like what Huska has done with this group that is lacking high-end talent. He got them playing his style last year and it was entertaining, even if low scoring. I think another year for the vets in this system, they'll be fine and there should be several improvements from the younger core.
