Default Huberdeau on the Panthers winning the cup

Saw this on Reddit. Didn't see a thread or post on it so I figured I'd make a thread. Translated from French:

https://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hocke...r-la-coupe.php

Quote:
Jonathan Huberdeau | "It's hard to see the guys lift the Cup"
"I'm happy for the guys, they worked hard. Aleksander Barkov, I’ve been with him for years, he works so hard. Aaron Ekblad, Sam Bennett too," lists Huberdeau.
Quote:
“It's hard to see the guys lift the cup. You tell yourself: I was there for 10 years, during difficult times. But that's how you build a team. When you're young, you don't care, you just want to build your career. Now, I'm back in this situation, but a little older.”
Quote:
"Tkachuk has arrived [in Florida], and yes, he is good," concedes Huberdeau. But Tkachuk is well surrounded. They have talent, you see. Bill Zito was good at picking up guys like Ekman-Larsson and Kulikov, who were not doing well elsewhere. And a good coach like Paul Maurice. I really thought they were going to win.”
Quote:
With his production down and a contract worth $10.5 million per year until 2031, he’s stuck in Alberta. "I'm sure it’s tough to get traded. I knew it by signing the contract, but I didn't know how it was going to go. I thought I was going to produce points, that it would go well, but the more defensive game system didn’t help.
Quote:
“It's never fun to be in rebuilding mode. When you are young, you can learn, gain maturity, you have the time. But at 31, you want to win and you want to win now. It's tougher to swallow, but you have to accept your role 100%.” Huberdeau accepts it by supporting his young compatriot Jakob Pelletier. "Jaromir Jagr taught me a lot of things. This time, I’m the one helping Pelletier, but I also try to help others. But it’s certain that there’s a more special connection between Québécois.”

So what he's saying is he had to become a responsible hockey player and it hurt his game.

This can all be rectified by a mutual termination of the contract.

Treliving and his love of old hockey players is something else.

I don’t see him asking out.

What did he say that’s controversial?

Always impressed with how vocally most of the fanbase seems to be in their hate for the guy. Poor production or not it feels like there’s something else there helping push that hatred along

What we would be stupid is him forgoing that kind of money to get out of Calgary.

No issue with any of those comments. He’s being honest. And it’s fair.

He has had nothing but a great attitude since he’s been here and he knows what he signed up for

Blaming the system doesn’t help his cause. First year it was Sutter and now that he’s gone it has to be something else. It’s painful watching this relationship where both the player and the team want out. Unfortunately the contract makes that virtually impossible.

Another, pretty important quote from Huberdeau from the article

Quote:
"I know I'm worth the contract. Several factors didn't help me, and it's up to me to get out of it."

Yeah his ####ty contract, and telling me that Lindholm was going to score 50 because he would be feeding him the puck. He lied.

He’s not blaming the system last year. He’s talking about after he signed and his production plummeted under Sutter.

I really see nothing wrong with his comments. He’s 31 and his former team just won the cup and his new team is gutting the team. Of course it’s difficult.

If it was Blake Coleman making these same comments people would be applauding his honesty and desire to win.

Yeah, at least he doesn’t have a James Neal attitude. It’s tough because he actually seems like he cares but lost all of his talent in one offseason

Yeah I do blame Treliving. Calgary also fired the big bad wolf and he had less points after he left.
