Pascall - 45

Gulutzan - 44
Gelinas - 45
Jordan Sigalet - 35

Not saying it's good, not saying it's bad, just interesting.

Bednar sounds great (though I had never heard of him before today)

But regardless of whether they can grab him or not, I am certain of one thing: Treliving and Gulutzan will scour every corner of the hockey world to find candidates that work as hard as them, are as focused, as passionate, and as intelligent in all things hockey as them.

I love this management team and the way they are systematically building a really solid group here.

Gulutzan also said he wants the new assistant to help run the special teams. So likely they hire someone who has had success in that area.

Also of note Bednar has already worked for the Flames. Was an assistant for Playfair in Abbotsford.

Good thing Grandpa Burke is over seeing things.

Still wouldn't mind Rierdon brought in as "Associate Coach". Isn't his specialty special teams? If so he'd probably be a good fit, but what do I know?

Our Heat coach, Ryan Huska is only 40.

Bidnar is an old ECHL defenceman as well, so he should fit in fine with Treliving and Gulukzan.

Gulutzan said he already likes the foundation of the coaches here, so I expect nothing to change on that front.

That's the one thing I didn't love. It's not that I don think the retained coaches are good (I don't really know), but really question just what options our new coach had on not keeping those guys. Hey new boss, so I know you basically said these two are quality people, but I'd prefer you find other things for them to do, I want my own coaches........... Likely not going to happen, and I don't like the coach not having autonomy to pick his staff.

It'll be interesting to see how the special teams shake down, who gets the assignments and how much autonomy the special teams coach get. IIRC it was Pinder on the morning show Thursday that insinuated despite Gelinas being in charge of the PK here it was still very much in control by Hartley.

If I recall correctly, that's what Treliving and Gulutzan said who they want to find. A coach that excelled in special teams. If that's the case than I assume Gelina's would switch roles to a more player development approach.

All indications so far are that Gelinas, Sigalet and Pringle will retain their prior jobs. All discussions have been about hiring one more person.

Hard to believe that years ago when we heard Brian Burke's name being mentioned as the possible hockey operations head, that we would be here now, rejoicing abput how he has created a management and coaching staff such as this... thank God he didn't turn out to be the guy most of us were fearful of getting.

While I'm mostly happy with the job BT has done so far, and look forward to seeing how GG does as well, I for one am not rejoicing anything just yet.

There is a decent young core in place, and all of the management and coaches seem to be young, hard working, sharp minded guys but there is still a long ways to go before they accomplish what I want them to, which is to be a perennial Stanley Cup contending team.
