We at Upside just posted are super early Top 96 for the 2024 NHL draft, so thought I might as well fire up this thread.
An interesting 2nd degree of separation for me for this draft class. The nurse practitioner I work closely with at my day job - she's the aunt of our projected 1st rounder Andrew Basha. So intrigued to follow his progress this season. We have him ranked 31st for our first rankings.
Please enjoy, in E-Mac's typical pretty awesome spreadsheet format. As the season goes on and with more rankings updates, the spreadsheet gets more and more features and more robust.
We hope to have Sandman back to write more sweet prospect profiles, but we're still letting him recover from the 2023 draft class and 160+ profiles!

Carter Yakemchuk's numbers really stood out for a defenseman his age. Being a local kid and playing on the Hitmen, you would have to think he is on the radar big time for the Flames.

Macklin Celebrini is a pretty sick name for a first overall pick.

I hope not.
Really tough to follow in the footsteps of a legend.
Has to be ten times tougher in the city where he played.
Best thing for the kid would be to go somewhere and create his own legacy without the constant comparisons and intense criticisms that this fan base will heap on him.
Would be great for him to play in Calgary once he is established and knows who he is as a person and a player.

My early read is that it's a pretty good draft. People won't think it is coming off of 2023, but I would rank it about the previous 3-4 drafts for sure. Celbrini and Eiserman are a compelling top 2. But then then next batch is also really good: Demidov, Helenius, Jiricek, Dickison. Certainly stronger on D.
Also intrigued to see where Cole Huston goes, who is a replicate of his brother. Will he go higher than Lane or drop as well?

I think celebrini is out to a solid lead over eiserman. But eiserman has that surreal goal scoring ability on the level of Bedard or ovechkin or bossy. Just an unreal knack for the hardest part of the game.

I agree with Jiri, it's shaping up to be an excellent draft, at least in the first round. Celebrini and Eiserman were absolutely lights out at the U-18's. Kiviharju and Yakemchuk looked much older with their smarts and poise. Helenius and Catton were standouts as well. Very exciting!
I hope to do more write-ups on this draft, if everybody isn't sick of me yet!

His name is spelled wrong on the link (Yaremchuk). Watched Yak play his whole life, was a Brick kid. He was always a very tall dude and appears to be filling out. Beautiful skater for a big guy and always had great hands and just seems to be able to score.
Two other locals are Basha and Elick.
Probably watched every game Bash has played from timbits to Midget. See's the ice well. Head on a swivel since timbits, laser shot as well. Always one of the youngest being a later birthday. I think Grant Point (Brayden's dad) helped mentor/coach him a lot as well.

C Simon Zether is one to watch. He's already 6'3", and had over a ppg in the J20 league in Sweden. Definitely not on Leo Carlsson's level, but amazing nonetheless.

I only really agree if he is a high pick. If he is a second or third round selection then I think it is fine.

Upside has him slotted in the early 3rd round. Of course, being this early, there will likely be a lot of jostling around. If Tij has a really good season, he could rocket up. Seattle is deep at center, but some of those guys could move on before next season giving Iginla a much bigger role on the team. It will be interesting to see his progress.
