Then you realize where Jack Beck was playing last year. He already spent four years playing junior hockey and spent last season playing in both the ECHL and AHL with affiliates of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Players are now allowed to make the jump from juniors to the NCAA, a major change, but Beck is in his own category as a player who’s played professional, but minor league, hockey.

Really don’t understand the NCAA eligibility rules anymore. Wonder if you could play NCAA now after maybe getting a cup of coffee in the NHL?

The NCAA did it to themselves.

They let Canucks 1st rounder Tom Willander play in the NCAA after he played in the SHL.

Now they have opened themselves to lawsuits as to what professional hockey means

This is hugely relevant for the Flames in that it gives Potter a very good linemate at ASU

There have been CFL players that have gone back and played CIS. Have to take a year off first. Rules may have changed since it happened.

Relevant in terms of point potential, but getting better linemates ≠ developing better (I'm a maaassive fan of Potter's skill set).

Hopefully if anything Beck is able to teach him a couple tricks he learned years post-draft

Beck was a worthwhile 6th round pick. Has a great shot, injuries just derailed his early development. If he can stay healthy, won't be surprised to see him be both productive in the NCAA and eventually knocking on the NHL's door.
