Edmonton fans are going to have a hard time enjoying this season without McDavid signed.
Nice!

Not at all, he has already made up his mind. He is answering questions to do damage control, he has to play there another season still. If he says I am not talking about it anymore the media and fans will go nuclear. Why would he endure that if he doesn't have to? He is following the John Tavares playbook.

Its certainly seems that why...I mean its possible he signs a short term deal at some point but we have come a long way.
Oilers state media:
January: "He loves Edmonton, expect at least 7 year deal to match Drai"
July 1: "he has weddings to attend, it will get done mid July don't worry"
Late July: "Short term deal incoming, don't worry this is better somehow"
Early August: "4 year deal any day now"
Late August: "Sept 3rd just like Drai"
Sept 4th: "before trainning camp for sure"
Today: "doubt they start the season without a deal but if they do its fine no distraction he loves Edmonton so much"
So we went from long term deal to short term during the season AT BEST
but no need to worry its all just Flames homers talking #### apparently. They are also still tossing around ridiculously low numbers like McDavid owes the Oilers and not the other way around. He "took less" last time and they gave it all to Nurse lol.

Clarke tried to make Lindros play when he was suffering severe concussion symptoms.
And no, their defence was terrible and their goaltending was average at best. Hextall was average in their best season and Snow was bad.

I genuinely don't think he's even seriously contemplating signing there any more.
The decision he's weighing in privacy is what preferred location am I going to upgrade to after this.
Toronto or (plug in US market)
He's just placating the local media until the season is over and he can slip out the back door.
I hope he just keeps up the "can't confirm nor deny" act because you know they won't sink their season with a trade if they still think there's the smallest chance he comes back.
And then of course, he walks for nothing.
They got him as a handout of a flawed lottery system so them getting nothing when he leaves is fitting.

Mavi Diary - Day 31
Dear Diary. It’s been a while since I did an entry because I have nothing to say. I’ve been doing the media rounds with my network and my future team network. I say my favourite terms; long, mid, short, and no. I don’t talk about money because it’s yes, I want money.
I’m checking in with family though; mostly Lauren about how much money her bar and designer business are losing. Lenard and I are both good and on the same emotional wave length; sometimes he speaks more than I do about it but he says he’s tired of speaking with staples and other mutts about my contract down at the dog park. That’s my family discussions done. I’ve earned the right to speak with them, I tell the media.
I’ve only made USD$100 million so it’s not like I can get by with Broberg and Holloway contracts. Why would I take a discount to play with myself anyway?
I’ve been thinking about LA. Mr. Gretzky says that it put him on the road to his booze business so there’s that. Also Leon’s wife is an actress so she wants to go to LA. Frankly diary Leon is a way bigger faker and pretends to fall down a lot better than her but that’s just a thing I guess.
Wormy offered to help show my mom around LA. And Leon’s mom too. Actually he said he’d host all of the moms at his place so that was sure kind of him. He promised pillow fights and sleepovers as long as the dads didn’t come on the trip. That seems really nice!
I’ve gotten to the point where I’m signed for this season. I told Lauren that I have a no move clause, and I earned it, so I don’t have to move into her bar to save money on the night watchman role.
I’m watching the situation with Kirill closely. He said he wants more money than me. I can’t afford to allow that. Why does a small tiny, shrimp-like marine crustacean that forms a vital part of the ocean food web, serving as a primary food source for whales, seals, penguins, and fish need money anyways?
I almost forgot to mention diary about how chill and relaxed I was when I went on stage with Morgan Wallen. I accidentally put on a shirt that had some colour on it and I almost passed out from the shock but I recovered to show my true carefree relaxed self. I told Mr Wallen “let’s go” but he said that he had a show to do. That made me cry a bit because Leon always agrees but Mr Wallen said that I could keep anything that I drew at the kids table backstage. I put my best black and white picture on the fridge but I don’t think Lauren liked it.
Later diary.

Staffer special
Here are Bob Stauffers points projections for the Oilers this year. 270 goals from only 13 players with 2 rookies getting 41 and 40points. Seems reasonable! What do you guys think?

Outside of Howard and maybe Ekholm that list sounds pretty reasonable

They would get a haul if they traded McD, and with Drysaddle still there, they could still have a very good team. As the team stands right now, their cup window has closed IMO, and they have gotten worse in each of the last two off-seasons- this summer, they lost two guys that really help in the playoffs, in Kane and Perry.

The only guy on this list with fewer points than last year is Ekolm, and it is only by 1 point. The prediction is all Oilers will improve next year.
That seems likely.

At least he has figured out early they won't be getting the six or eight 30 goals scorers like he predicted last year. I am surprised he didn't pencil Draisatl in for 50.

McDavid over 120 points seems like a stretch to me. To get that many assists, he still has to pass it to someone else to score. Who is that going to be? Draisaitl and Hyman on the PP...that's about it.
but let's grant him somewhere around 70 assists...fine.
53 goals???? Are you kidding me? He's eclipsed 50 ONCE in his career, and that was his best season where he had over 150 points. His ratio of goals to assists has always been around 1:2. I don't see that happening at all. More likely around 35 goals.
That puts him at just over 100 points. They just don't have the personnel around him to score more.
