Well that must have been the craziest game I’ve ever been to. Welcome back Daan Klomp!

What an absolutely ridiculous game of football. Amazing! And of course Klomp gets the winner, it's schoolboy daydream stuff.

Yikes. Some horrendous defending on both sides especially in the box, where it was being treated like a hot potato.

Still not sure why the goal was called back on the free kick. No interference that stopped the goalie from seeing or doing anything with that shot. A linesman wanting to make himself feel important.

Best goal of the night goes to the free kick third goal. Right off the training ground. Perfect weight on the pass to get it to the middle of the box. Great (planned) dummy and a solid quick strike. All needed to work together to allow that to play out and was executed perfectly, timing wise.

More creativity in this game isn't a bad thing as opposed to an odd angled free kick that has less success.

That was so awesome!! So many things that in any other game would be the highlight of the night, but it has to be Klomp parading in front of the fans after the winner at the death!

Disappointing that we were so bad defensively, but really, who cares? We got the win!!

I was level with the free kick wall. A calgary player was definitely offside and in the line of sight of the keeper. Think that’s why it was called off (line of sight)

Crazy crazy game. Great to see Klomp get the glory. What a story for him.

Goalie didn't complain after it went in, off the post, which he wasn't getting to in any way shape or form.

Linesman with the angle he was at, would have no way of seeing where the player was relatively to the goalie as the ball was traveling. If the ref called that, fine, he's seeing the play head on but the linesman is just guessing 35+ yards away on the sideline.

Yeah maybe - but I said to my buddy that it was offside right before it was taken and called offside. Didn’t affect the result though - so all good. Was a great free kick though and shame it didn’t count.

By the way, the same player - don’t know who it was - was jumping around right in front of the keeper - about a foot from his face - before he then pulled off into the wall. So that probably drew the linesman’s attention to it.

Montgomery, and he was in an offside position, but didn’t interfere with the goalie seeing or not seeing the ball at all. The ball went into the top corner and he was standing in the middle of the net.

Fun game to watch but Cavalry gets absolutely smashed by Forge/Ottawa if they played like that in the playoffs.

Wow just watched the highlights, that was insanity. Pretty inexcusable defending from both teams but a treat for the fans. Place must've been rocking after Klomp's goal!

Hopefully that is the kind of game that gets the goals back and springs them forward for the stretch run. They've got their superman back, time to win some games. I guess I was wrong, Klomp = goals goals goals

That's not offside on Montgomery, he is allowed to be there as long as he makes no movement to the ball, he's not obstructing Irving in any way

Forge being undefeated is a frightening opponent.
As a team they've scored the most goals and conceded the fewest.

It is difficult to imagine them not taking the double crown.

I agree with you, but we will peak at the right time. I liked Ntignee's play, and he looks outstanding. That forward line, with Musse, Toby, and him, is a force. I also think that having Klomp back should solidify things on the backend, and we should stabilize there. Most of the goals were at the other end last night, so it was hard to see what happened, but overall, we've been pretty good defensively this year. In the first half, the penalty that Bah drew was pretty blatant, and the second goal Vancouver scored was one that Carducci should've had.

I thought it was funny that the crowd was cheering for Klomp to come on about 5 minutes before he did. I get it, but it's not a glowing endorsement for the guys who were there either.

This season has kind of sucked, but I think on paper this is the best team we’ve ever assembled. Tommy will have to get it all to click at the right time though.

That was a crazy ass game. Entertaining if nothing else.

Toby finally scores to get the monkey off his back. Did miss another PK tho.

Klomp scoring was chefs kiss beautiful at the death. Hopefully Cavalry is back.

Side note, why does VFC have our freaking number???

My feeling is its because VFC is fast and physical. They can outmuscle the midfielders and create some high percentage chances that way. Playing all three of Camargo, Baldisimo, and Gutierrez at once generates some nice ball movement, but super vulnerable to a counter.

I'm hoping with Klomp back, and perhaps playing Kobza as CDM, they can get the defense in order. Fun game, necessary win, but lots of work to do.

All four goals seemed largely preventable. Which also means they're fixable, but they've repeated a few of these multiple times this year

1. A really poor challenge to concede a PK
2. Sloppy giveaway at top of the box (unfortunately Gutierrez seems good for one of these every few games)
3. Sloppy giveaway as Cavalry was breaking out and the defence wasn't close to set
4. Poor positioning on the corner, Klomp got beat and Piepgrass outjumped

Thankfully they got the win, but to lose a two goal lead and then concede an equalizer after an 88' should have been winner is really poor. However, I'm hoping that the vibes and energy created from this match is going to jumpstart the season after a rough summer and the defensive lapses will go away

Well that was… something. If that ended in a loss or draw, I would’ve had plenty to say about giveaways, multiple blown leads, “defending”, etc. But now it all seems like part of the storyline for Klomp’s big winner on his return, so I’ll just enjoy it. It was an entertaining match and I’m glad that I was there to be a part of it, and sometimes matches like this (plus getting a player like Klomp back) have a way of re-invigorating a team.

Regarding Montgomery on the free kick, I agree with soreshins that his antics in front of the keeper in the lead-up to the free kick put him on the radar of the ref and assistant. When the kick was eventually taken, he was in an offside position and made very deliberate ducking motion. Whether he needed to duck or not is debatable, but the officials logic would be : if you’re ducking from the ball you must’ve been in the sight line of the keeper, plus you were clowning around with the keeper a few seconds ago. I get what he was trying to do, but I think that he should’ve been smarter.

Remarkably, that’s not the first 5-4 match that I have seen in-person, but that time I was on the losing side. in 1994, 15-year-old young Jimmy was in the stands at Carrow Road for a 5-4 Southamption away win over Norwich City. Matt Le Tissier even got a hat trick.

Nice to be on the winning side of a 5-4 though, and to be honest, nice to see Cavalry just bag a few goals. It has been sparse lately.
