Casting this as a binary thing stopped being helpful about 600 posts ago. Teams have a range of strategic stances:

1) All the chips in to win it now
2) Willing to trade long-term assets to boost current roster
3) Stand pat and let the roster improve organically
4) Trade pending UFAs rather than let them walk
5) Willing to trade veterans who want don’t to play here for picks and prospects
6) Actively seeking to move even veterans who want to play here for picks and prospects
7) Tanking to finish bottom 5

Fans who are frustrated that the Flames don’t seem to be doing 6 and 7 aren’t claiming that they’re doing 1 and 2.
