A team with a toxic culture that was present with the Miller-Pettersson fiasco, that managed to struggle their way to the bottom, that has weak prospects, poor facilities, and a fickle fan base.
When a player could play on any team in the league while making similar money, and have repeatedly stated their main priority was winning, why would they want to stay there is a better question. This was a trade that needed to happen for both parties and while the Canucks will be worse off it is better than losing their best player for nothing and the fact that it involved younger players with upside is an indication that the management isn't completely oblivious to the reality of the situation.
This team was absolutely sewered by the OEL trade though, a huge cost for an an overpaid player with a bad buyout that is preventing the team from being successful... That is the trade that slammed the Canucks window shut.
