1. Different Skis and yes, it makes a big difference.
2. Cross Country skiing sucks. Lets drive to the middle of nowhere and glide about in the wilderness like chumps!
Cross Country skiers are like the cyclists of the snow. Just a menace to society.
I'll maintain my outdoor wilderness pursuits to my strong points which consist of a considerable fire in the Lodge and a glass of nice Whiskey, Bourbon or Brandy, maybe even a nice cigar.
Snow: wonderful and beautiful to look at just so long as you're stuck out in it, covered by it and someone else is shoveling it.
