I get where dino is coming from and in a different cap time I'd more than likely agree with him. Even now I dont like the concept of 'Retirement Contracts.' Giving a 29 year-old an 8-year deal does, on the surface, seem pretty unwise. But older players are showing that they can still contribute.
As far Bennett goes? The guy just won a Cup and a Conn Smythe, he was getting $8M from somewhere regardless, what do we care if he gets it from Florida?

TO probably would have given him 9x7 if he hit the open market, and if they didn't then someone else would have easily. The league is full of guys who light it up in the regualr season but disapear in the playoffs. Bennett is a rare breed that will help you win IN the playoffs.
