Number one centers are almost never available through trades or even free agency, and when they are available, more than half the teams in the league are bidding on them. You need to draft them and typically with a top three or top five 1st rounder. I just don't see the Flames finishing low enough to get a real shot at that, not with a prime Wolf.
I think the best we can hope for is to build a reasonably competitive team without a number one center, like in the Iginla and Gaudreau/Tkachuk years, and pray that we can at least find a top line pretender at center like a Conroy or Lindholm.
I like Robertson, I don't know if he would be the right fit or not, but we can't let good be the enemy of perfect, otherwise we could wait another generation for a true number one center.
