There is also value in setting your price on an asset and holding firm in the face of lowball offers from the other GMs. If Conroy makes a habit of caving in then we'll never see value out of any future trade.

Even if it comes down to only one team wanting to trade for Andersson, Conroy always has the option to extend Andersson and plan a trade for a future date when the market is more favourable. (Similar to the Sabres and Byram)

Some fans may lose their minds in that scenario but I think it is a stronger move than to cave in for a lesser value offer. The leverage from leaving the door open to keeping the player means teams need to offer more value in a trade than if the Flames just kept the player and creates a floor to the value of the trade.
