I think McDavid knows that his career will be judged based on Stanley Cup rings and I do think he was probably considering a team friendly short term deal with the Oilers to prove to everyone that it's all about winning a cup for him. However the optics of signing for less than Kaprizov is terrible for him, his agent, and the NHLPA.
