If you want to pretend people being OK with a ghoulish racist bigot no longer spreading hate is some sort of negative human trait, go ahead. The real ghoulishness is that he was permitted to spread his hate for so long, and that people didn't reject it, and instead elevated him to a massive position of influence. I think you've got who the bad people are mixed up. But I guess if you aren't apart of one of the groups he relentlessly attacked, and you also fail to have empathy, it's easier to ignore that part of who he was and the damage he contributed to in American society(and spreading globally).
