Any of y'all seen the surveys on this panel? First you have to watch a four minute film on the idea, and it's essentially propaganda for it. Then you get to answer two questions, which is where it gets insane.

First, you have to give postal code and full name, then you're hit with the first question
What aspect do you like most about an Alberta Police Service?
A- it would be accountable to Alberta, not Ottawa
B- we could organize it to better service our unique rural communities
C- Officers could establish rewarding careers in Alberta instead of temporary postings, which should improve recruitment and retention.

Thats it. No option to say none of the above, mandatory to answer if you want to go to the next question about cons. You know full well that the gov will now say X% of Albertans support this because it could serve our unique rural communities as proof to put it to referendum.
For what it's worth, I picked C, then I wrote a long note in the comments about the poor quality of date science they are engaging in by not giving people the chance to decline to answer, about how un-conservative it is of them to create all of this government bloat by duplicating existing institutions at a cost, and about how they would benefit with actually trying to grapple with the challenges others face rather than just hoping by gaining control they can fix it because it is foolhardy of them to think they would have an easier time recruiting people to rural areas, especially with a smaller pool of candidates.

A - I don't have a clear understanding of why it is preferable to have one or the other be the accountable
B - I don't believe they have any evidence they could improve the situation, other than some hand waving.
C - I do think it might be good if people had more opportunity to choose where they work, but I fear they will find that it is still very hard to fill some postings, and a little too easy to fill others. still gonna be way too hard to fill the Manning detachment, and your local boy from Calgary still isn't going to be excited about being pressured to move an 8 hour drive from home.
