This actually makes sense. After next year, Edmonton's chances of winning undoubtedly decrease. Even McDavid isn't quite the player he was. He needs help to win the Cup. Now Toronto may not be the answer, but who knows?

And McDavid may keep it to himself, as he'd rather join the Leafs as a UFA then trigger a trade and have the Leafs give up valuable assets.
