In my teenaged days back packing around Europe, I was staying at a place on the Greek Island of Corfu geared to that crowd. On the cab ride to the resort the cabbie warned us not to rent scooters due to the bad roads and crazy drivers.
My two travel companions decide they're going to do it and rent scooters. I was under capitalized for this venture so I opted to stay at the beach. An announcement is made for anyone with a certain blood type at the resort to give blood as someone staying there requires a blood transfusion. So I wandered if it was one of them.
I make my way back to our room and my two travel companions had returned and had a fair bit of Ouzo by that time. So they're ranting about how safe scooters are and how you would have to be an absolute idiot to get hurt. As we make our way to dinner we encounter a guy who I can tell is pretty messed up and a girl who's with him helping him along. My companions are two hammered to notice. So exchange hello's and I ask how's it going, and the guy says not so good. My travel companions pipe up and say "Dude you need to rent a scooter, they're so safe, you'd have to be an idiot to get hurt." This guy intersects, " I did rent a scooter, I had to avoid a guy and fell off and just got out of having a blood transfusion." He was quite polite about it and they felt like asses.
So it depends on your experience. Some will love them. Rasmus Anderdon might disagree.
