The discussion was about the summer of 2005 after the lockout. Turek still had two seasons left on his contract at the time but chose to retire instead.
MegaErtz suggested that the Flames paid him off under the table in order to do that, but they didn't need to because they had the option of giving him a compliance buyout which wouldn't have counted against the cap.
