Also, progression matters. Parekh went God-mode in the 2nd half of the season and literally put up historic numbers for a defenseman in the OHL. Bedard regressed - or, more accurate probably: he was basically flat to the prior year.

Bedard is a great player, but he is no where near what generational players were doing in their D+1 and D+2 years.

(also, I am not arguing that Parekh is better - my argument is that Bedard is over-rated)
Bedard isn't a generational player like Crosby, but he's a franchise player that you would build a team around. He's not overvalued; he's simply playing on one of the worst NHL teams in the last 20 years.

No defence. No forwards. No goaltending.

Opposing teams stick their top shutdown guys on Bedard and his two 3rd liner linemates (right now it's Donato and Nazar) and how much can he do?

McDavid came into the league behind Draisatl and Nugent-Hopkins. Eichel came in behind O'Reilly and Reinhardt. Mackinnon had Duchenne and O'Reilly sheltering him.

Bedard has no one. Chicago wouldn't be dumb enough to trade him, but if they wanted Parekh plus both Calgary firsts this year, get it done.
