The trade barriers are fundamentally a provincial problem not a federal one so really it’s a leadership test rather than a policy test. Things like the size of French writing on cereal boxes will derail this.

Yeah, conservatives don’t seem to understand the source of the internal trade barriers issue. Canada is a very loose federation, and the provinces jealously protect their prerogatives. Conservative provincial governments, in particular, have always opposed the federal government overstepping their authority.
I mean it’s great conservatives are getting onboard with greater federal authority in this country. But let’s not pretend this was ever anything but a problem created by the provinces.
