I don't remember if it was Sec or Royle, but they mentioned that in the Flames' GM interviews, almost all of the candidates presented a plan of blowing the team up and rebuilding. Edwards went with Conroy because he presented his plan about making the team younger, a retool on the fly, rather than a full rebuild to the studs.

There is one constant over these last 20 years. We can question the individual capability of each GM, but the direction is ultimately set by Edwards.

This is on Edwards. It always has been.
