Mr Hindsight says they should have known Wolf was coming and tore down to the studs a season or two earlier, but that’s pretty unfair.

Not really unfair. It was a conscious decision to sign Huberdeau and chase Kadri. They had a futures package on the table or alternatively could have held on signings and dumped everyone at that deadline.
