Think it’s a combination of so many teams within range of a playoff spot that they don’t want to sell as well as teams that are at the bottom of the league not wanting to sell anything for picks/prospects either because they have nothing to sell or because they want NHLers back in trade.

A retained Coleman or Andersson brings an absolute haul. Only other teams do that. In a cap world, the Flames should be acquiring top prospects using their cap space with their aging vets while they are still relevant. The Isles just did it with Nelson, Ritchie is going to be a stud.
