If you have a top pairing that can skate, stick check and push the puck up ice I think that is a form of defending.
I don't know what is happening with Byram in Buffalo and why his name keeps coming up, but that could be a target for a LHS for Parekh.

One terrible decision by an old GM doesn't negate the wide spread and preferred logic of a lefty/righty pairing.
