There won't be any handcuffing; the salary cap is 87.5 this season and projects at $113.5 million for 2027-28 season. Almost 30 extra million for teams to play with three seasons from now. With the NHL announcing the cap already it would be wise for him to wait until July 1st 2026.
Just not sure how the max works in this case can he signed 20% beforehand? I think if he goes July 1 he loses the 8th year.
Either way I can't see Edmonton screwing around they will be on his heated driveway with 20% max and treats for the dog.
