I like Kadri and I believe he is the better player today for sure but Kadri's contract is not appealing for other teams. Father time has been known to be almost unbeatable and Kadri is quickly approaching the age where most players start to really fall off.
It simply doesn't make sense for the AVS and if you view things from a completely non-bias way, it's easy to see why Mittelstadt is worth more.

I know I am repeating myself from 3 pages ago, but I think the points are worth repeating considering the declarations being made this evening.
Also, consider the news that Mittelstadt is in the coach's doghouse and not suiting up because they want to trade him away. I do not think his value is very high right now inside the Avs or around the league, even with all his youth.

Kadri would bring them almost double the goal scoring and could help them try and get out of a wild card position and try for 2nd in their division for home ice advantage for the first round.
The cost difference between Mittelstadt and Kadri is only $1.25M, which doesn't seem like a big deal when you factor in the difference in production right now.
Kadri's NMC means they would have to make him work for this year and next but then the contract changes to a 13 team NTL, which could give the Avs a list of 19 teams they could trade away the last 3 years of his contract.

Kadri's age may be a problem in a couple of years but the Avs only need to own that problem until the end of next season and in that window the Avs are trying to win. (Specifically they want to win right now before Rantanen's contract expires.)
Mittelstadt is a problem now, regardless of his age he is a guy taking up $5.75M in cap space and cannot get to 20 goals. Right now he is at 8 goals in 45 games. (Colton is at 13 goals in 29 games)
