Liberals wouldn't have courted Mark Carney for over a decade, even over Trudeau, if he wasn't an eloquent speaker.

Michael Ignatieff also was an incredible speaker, and incredibly sharp, examples below.

The problem comes when it falls apart like at 57:00 when Layton questions Ignatieff about Ignatieff having the worst attendance in parliament and getting a promotion. And Ignatieff, for all his obvious faults, still was an elected MP for 5 years at that point.

Carney is an unelected outsider becoming PM without a seat should he be chosen (something that was used against Smith provincially), has multiple citizenships (something used again Scheer), coming aboard a sinking ship. For all the hoopla about the demise of the PC party in 1993, they still got 16.04% of the votes, 3% difference from Ignatieff's Liberals, and 4% away from the current Liberals. This is the level of depth where we are right now.

These are all reasons why I don't understand his play now as these can all be fixed with time, unless this is the Liberal core trying to stop Freeland from securing leadership at all cost as she has fallen out of favour and it's incredibly difficult to remove a Liberal leader once selected.

Also...you used the "get to know him" line with Poilievre before to show how the CPC will crumble once Canadians know him, and look what has happened since. Maybe the rest of Canadians don't necessarily see eye to eye and may not flock to Carney as you think they would when he's leader of a deeply unpopular party while supported by the former leader and his office.

And...most Canadians don't watch debates, and those that do, are often only doing it to assert their own bias.
