Lindholm had better underlying metric to show he was about to pop. He also got carried by some very talented players here.
The issue with Cozens is that has shown significant regression after a career year, while other players have bounced back. It's not for a lack of opportunity.
He also has a 7.1M price tag going forward, if he was on a bridge deal or expiring contract that is different.
We also don't have anyone to carry him on a line at the moment either.

All very good points.
But I think Conroy (and mostly Murray) want Calgary to be as competitive as possible, so is willing to risk taking a young player that has shown great promise in the past. Let's face it, if Cozens was still scoring 70 points he wouldn't be available. If Calgary wants a young centre, and they clearly do, this may be the only way to get one. And thanks to Wolf, the draft doesn't look promising to get that much needed centre these days.
