I look at all those teams below us and compare it to our roster and we are clearly better. We can purge everything at the deadline and we would still probably have accumulated enough points to fall within the 11-16OA range.
At this point, that pick we traded is pretty much sunk cost, and I expect to have two late 1sts (FLA and NJD), plus whatever we can get for our trades this year. It is what it is.

Just looking at the rosters, NSH, PHI, DET, OTT, NYI, BUF, SEA, MTL and PIT all seem like reasonable possibilities to finish higher than the Flames. All those teams are a maximum of 4 points behind despite the Flames’ hot start, with many having played less games. The way the Flames finished the year last year and how they’ve played since the 5-0-1 start are consistent with a bottom 10 finish.
That said, I always love it when the Flames win, and I love how the team is playing hard and in close losses. So, if the team ends up with two late 1sts in a draft with so many centres in the top 10, I’ll be sad, but I will have enjoyed the team’s relatively good play.
