Most Canadians (and Americans) support immigration. But like people everywhere else, they want that immigration to be selective and controlled. Support falls away when authorities lose control.
Just dismissing this as millions of voters suddenly becoming ignorant bigots is a sure-fire way to get your ass handed to you in elections.

People aren't against immigration, they are against shortages of houses and healthcare. The fact that the Liberals just let in a million people a year with no plan to house them is, rightfully, baffling for most Canadians. Candians were already struggling with Covid induced supply shortages and inflation, the housing/health care crisis was a blow that many couldn't handle.
People are concerned about the cost of living, which has increased dramatically since 2020. Calling them racists isn't going to win votes.
