Personally I just don't think he is great for the sport, and that he cares a lot more about winning than racing in a sportsmanlike manner. I know there are no points for that, but it kinda detracts from it. It' like when hockey teams find ways to exploit the rules until games become so boring that the rules need to change. Great, you won, but you kinda ruined it. |
I'd argue it makes things more exciting - his willingness to battle hard is what gave us several fantastic laps of close racing. I think most other drivers in the field in that situation would have viewed the overtake as inevitable and let it happen fairly easily so they could preserve their tires and keep a gap to Oscar.
Good chance Oscar could've caught him (passing is another thing of course) if he kept pushing (and if the Max Lando battle continued longer, and if Lando slowed Max up if/when he gets by cleanly). Once again McLaren failed to see the bigger picture
