My general point isnt that they have one more shot at it. They have atleast the next 2 years with largely the same roster as the one last year.
Just because they weren't good enough to win Game 7 last year doesn't automatically mean they won't be good enough next 2 years. It's not a linear equation.
They haven't gotten worse. At worst- they are equal to last year for ATLEAST the next 2 years.
Announcing an extension prior to camp opening was best case scenario. Now there is no hope for a divided locker room, media circus etc to derail their season with Draisaitl eventually leaving. Today isn't a "win" by any means for Flames fans.

Bouchard is getting a massive raise, the team you listed won't be together under the cap. He won't just "get extended" it will cost somebody off the list.
And I strongly disagree with your take they are at least as good as last year for the next two seasons. They have taken a major hit on team D and will need to scramble to get under the cap for next season. This coming season is their best shot and only shot IMO...they are the Hawks after Kane and Toews got their new deals.
Beauty thing is its happening no matter what anyone says...Oilers will have to cut depth and we have seen them with prime McDrai and no depth.
Massive Drai contract was the second best thing for Flames fans, I'll take it
UFA walk would be best
Trade or discount would be worst
