Teams always get fooled into believing player “X” is the guy that will push them over the top. It’s really only worth it if the player has term or is willing to sign an extension like Mark Stone did. The Canucks got over excited in their first year of looking like a contender and emptied their clip on guys who more than likely were going to test free agency. Zadorov I understood, as he was a relatively cheap add. Lindholm was the big risk and it ultimately failed. You don’t give up a first and two prospects for a rental and are happy about losing in the second round. I think the Canucks under their new management have made some solid moves but if they continue with this “all in” aggressive approach at proceeding trade deadlines they will not be contenders for long. Their fans won’t admit it, as they seem to be having a love affair with their new management, but Conroy dunked on their gm and got him to overpay weeks before the deadline.
