If flames retain 50% on markstrom, and we take Allen back with no retention, then both teams change goalies and essentially pay the same amount of money. Obviously flames overpay for goalies at that point but with a higher salary floor it’s not terrible. Dump Allen for whatever we can at some point.

Conroy needs to be careful about future year draft picks because I think Markstrom does move the needle, and therefore it’s a worse picking number.
For me, it’s always a gamble with draft picks, but the opportunity to take 2 top 10 players is pretty exciting.

I think the trade goes down at the draft, when it gets to pick 9 and the Flames see who is left on the board. Then they decide if they want to sweeten the deal to NJ to get pick 10.
