This was the stat that was floating around 2 years ago. I think the theory was when the 2012/13 lockout happened, it made it harder to sign your top 3 OV players to long term deals, longer than 8 years like Crosby and Ovechkin and others were doing before that lockout. Theory was rebuilding wasn't as effective as it was after the 05 lockout ebcause you couldn't front load deals and manipulate the cap hit of elite players. Time frame makes sense why 2010 was starting point as players drafted from then on would be considered post 12/13 lockout rebuilds.
What has changed is the turnaround time frame though. Teams drafting at the top seem to have instant success back in 05 to 12. Rebuilding teams that started their rebuild around the 12/13 lockout and beyond weren't as successful until now. Florida, Edmonton, Colorado were 3 teams rebuilding all around the same time. These teams are starting to win cups now.
