I spent my childhood in northern BC and was born a Flames fan during the height of the BOA.

Ever since moving to the lower mainland for high school, I've been dumped on relentlessly and fought back as a one man army.

I've despised the Nucks mostly due to this history and in past years, when I'd tried to not cheer their failures (let alone their victories) I could never do it.

But something changed this year. I always liked Tocchet as a player and I enjoy listening to him talk to the media as a coach. This is the most likable roster I've seen them ice; their transparent reactions to the fans in game one was beautiful. Throw in a couple ex-Flame darlings and the recipe gets a little sweeter.

And when Boeser tied it up in game 4, after the terrible couple years he went through, I shocked myself when I stood up and yelled. That was a yell previously reserved only for the Flames and Team Canada.

I've suffered a lot of loss in the last decade or so and I find myself tearing down old walls and cheering the human element of sport more and more. It was weird at first, but it's actually kind of...nice. The chip isn't completely off my shoulder but it's a lot lighter.

I just have to avoid Kris Knoblauch's hiring press conference video so I can hate these lotto losers in peace.
