That’s how I’m interpreting it.
Really hope they end up trading their 2025 first round pick before the deadline. But I doubt it. Would be a little short-sighted of them to leave themselves exposed like that for the 2026 draft. Could see them trading their 2024 first round pick instead as that would give them the most protection in the draft over the next 3 years. Since their 2025 pick already has conditions on it, I would think if they traded it to another team, it could not be protected since the decision of which pick the flames get has to be set by March 10th (and can only be pushed to 2026 if Vegas is set to pick in the top 10 of 2025).

So if Vegas trades their 2024 pick to a team before Friday… they have reasonable protection on 2 of the next 3 drafts since their 2024 pick is likely to be outside the top 20 and the worst pick they can give up in 2025 is outside the top 10 (but likely to be outside the top 15).

Alternatively, if Vegas trades their 2025 pick to a team before Friday… they have protection on only their 2024 pick which is the one they would be keeping and is likely to be outside the top 20 of a weaker draft. They would then have no protection on their 2025 and 2026 draft picks which would be risky.

Not sure why they would prefer to trade their 2025 pick to another team before Friday. It’s possible they really want to make a selection this year or a team they are negotiating with right now really wants the pick to be in 2025 and will not budge on that.
