IMO this was the exact purpose of inducing Hamas to attack when they did. It totally distracts the left from coherent anti-russia arguments. Just watch that John Stewart clip where he directly compares the two. How can congress hope to pass support for Ukraine in that environment?

Girly you are right, it is another example of the left hamstringing themselves. We have a group of trans-rights activists in Edmonton who have become almost violently pro-Palestine, and I don't get it at all. Personally I think there's a huge amount of narcissism involved. How can we as Canadians have any impact on what Israel and Hamas are doing? We can't, there's no possible way. Protesting and making stands to this degree is foolish and displays an incredible level of naivety (or alternately a startlingly grotesque picture of narcissism and belief of control over world conditions.)

I am not even convinced the US could get Israel to stop without direct military intervention of some kind. Israelis need to get their own government to stop. Palestinians need to completely reject Hamas. Until one of these situations changes it is going to be incredibly difficult or impossible to influence it externally. This is a large reason why the neighbors are basically not helping with the situation either. Look at how Saudi is trying to address the situation- not by demanding stops or cease fires, but by trying to appeal to Israel by offering recognition and other things. We have to induce Israel to stop at this point. Protesting vociferously on canadian streets or american streets isn't going to work and is just dumb.
